Pick your two top CBs
Oggieboggie and Tomkins.

Sorry Winnie I like you and its tough to leave you out but I reckon right now we have the best 3rd choice CB in the Prem and that is impressive for us.

Champions League here we come!

Ogbonna and Collins. Both fearless in a challenge, good in the air and experienced defenders

Tomka is dangerous offensively though.

The Stoat ~ Did you have to bring John Cushley up?

I'll be having nightmares tonight thinking of the Cushley/Fergusson combo!

What about Bilic & Reiper? They were quite a decent pairing (while it lasted)

We only played with one centre half in the old days Mooro played there a few time but he was a half back in the traditional sense so no

Stoat, if you are picking our best 2 CB's of all time, don't you think you have made a glaring omission......

Re: Pick your two top CBs
Ogbonna had a superb game on Sunday and obviously we'd all have high hopes that that would continue. If it does him and Reid will be our CB pairing. Reid is hands down a better defender than Tomkins and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Reid was rock solid on saturday and his reading of the game is improving with age. Having someone as seemingly savvy as Ogbonna next to him will only improve that.

Early days with Ogbonna as I've said but him and Reid have the look of our version of Bruce/ Ballister Hansen/GHTC about them, something we haven't had really since Gale and Alvin.

Ogbonna? According to you, didn't he score that own goal against Astra on purpose as part of a betting scam?

Re: Pick your two top CBs
Depends on the opposition to a great extent

Normally Ogbonna & Reid with Oxford in front of them
Like everyone else I was really impressed with that set up vs Arsenal

All 3 have pace & the ability to come out of defence with the ball

There may be times when Bilic will prefer to play 3 CH's, in which case Tomkins comes in

Collins is obviously slow & possibly better in the air than the others. A very dependable back up & useful where a physical battle is required against a big old fashioned no9

Our defence now looks very good & solid with options in all positions

Re: Pick your two top CBs
Found it interesting that Oxford said in his Sky interview that offie was the one behind him giving him help guidance and instructions. Perhaps what our defence has been lacking in the last few seasons as reid, Tomkins, Collins and all the full backs we've had plus the goalies gacebt been that vocal

It's just nice to know that 2 injuries won't leave us playing a Mullins or o'brien in the centre of defence!

Re: Pick your two top CBs
I think that barring injury or fatigue it has to be Reid and Ogbonna.
Ogbonna has clearly been bought as a starter and to have a left footed centre back and that leaves the others to fight it out. Reid was highly rated and I doubt he would have signed a new long term deal to sit on the bench.
Tomkins hasn't done much wrong but he isn't a right back and Jenkinson has to come in. Maybe we'll play three at the back in some games and they'll all get a run out. Who knows.

Re: Pick your two top CBs
OP makes a very good point.... can't think of another club that has such depth at CB:

Ogbonna
Reid
Tomkins
Oxford
Collins
Burke
Henry

Plus Kouyate if necessary, which allows more flexibility on the bench.

With other prospects such as Dobson, the new kid from Arsenal as well.

Hopefully the days of needing a Roger Johnson on loan are well behind us!

fucking hell theres some right weirdos on this thread saying drop reid or oggy after a superb performance on sunday

Vodka_Jay 8:24 Tue Aug 11
Re: Pick your two top CBs
Why the hell would you changed your 2 centre backs after a clean sheet away at Arsenal!

Also Reid is our best defender.

Reid and Ogbonna for me with Tomkins on the bench
